Is Your Fitness Living Paycheck To Paycheck?

Health, like your financial status, isn’t static; it’s a spectrum. We call that spectrum the Sickness, Wellness, Fitness continuum. Let's break it down and then discuss how CrossFit Armati can help you move from living health “paycheck to paycheck” to building a robust savings account of fitness:

Sickness:

  • Definition: A state where the body is not functioning at its basic level, leading to illness, disease, or discomfort. This is akin to being in debt or having no financial buffer.

  • Examples:

    • Chronic conditions like diabetes, obesity, or heart disease, where daily activities are limited.  Lack of sufficient muscle mass would fit well here, too.

    • Frequent illness or injury due to poor health practices.

    • Feeling perpetually tired, with low energy for life’s demands.

    • Examples of biomarkers in the sickness range: Body-Fat percentage women: >32, men >25, Blood pressure >140/90, Resting heart rate >100, DEXA Bone Mineral Density T-Score: < -2.5, HbA1c >6.5,

Living in sickness is like living with financial debt; every health issue is an unexpected expense you’re unprepared for.  Setbacks almost certainly arise sooner and more frequently, and the impact of those setbacks can be devastating.

Wellness:

  • Definition: A state where you maintain basic health, avoiding sickness but not thriving. This parallels living paycheck to paycheck, where you cover the essentials but can’t afford much beyond that.  Many sources define wellness as the absence of disease.  I don’t know about you, but this is not winning in my book.  It’s simply not losing…yet.

  • Examples:

    • Maintaining a weight within the “normal” range but not optimal for your body type.

    • Having enough energy for daily tasks but no extra for hobbies or stress management.

    • Regularly exercising but only enough to counteract sedentary lifestyle effects, not to build strength or endurance.

    • Examples of biomarkers in the well range: Body-Fat percentage women: 25-32, men: 18-25, Blood pressure: 120/80, Resting heart rate: 70bpm, DEXA Bone Mineral Density T-Score: -2.5 to -1.0, HbA1c: 5

Wellness is the bare minimum; you’re not in debt, but you’re not building wealth.  You'll be alright as long as everything goes just fine (which we all know life has a funny way of not going just fine).  Again, not winning, just trying not to lose.

Fitness:

  • Definition: A state beyond wellness, where you not only maintain health but actively enhance it, building physical, mental, and emotional resilience. This is your health savings account, where you invest in long-term well-being.

  • Examples:

    • Capable of performing high-intensity workouts, showing strength, flexibility, and endurance.

    • Mental clarity, stress resilience, and the energy to engage in life fully.

    • Recovery from physical activities is quicker, and you’re less prone to common ailments.

    • Examples of biomarkers in the Fit range: Body-Fat percentage women: 14-20, men: 6-18, Blood pressure: 105/60, Resting heart rate: 50, DEXA Bone Mineral Density T-Score: -1.0 - 0 and higher, HbA1c: <5.

CrossFit at Armati is your investment strategy for this fitness savings account:

  • Regular Deposits: Each workout session and each choice to opt for nutritious food adds to your health reserves.

  • Compound Interest: Over time, these efforts don’t just add up; they multiply, enhancing your quality of life and longevity. This is that consistency people keep talking about.

  • Emergency Fund: A high level of fitness better equips you to handle health setbacks or the demands of aging, much like having savings for life’s unexpected costs.

At CrossFit Armati, we’re not just about keeping you out of sickness or wellness; we’re about pushing you into fitness, where you’re not just surviving but thriving. Join us to start banking your fitness for a lifetime of health dividends.
